There is no question that a solution is needed, but this is not the right one.
The Cape Henlopen School Board had choices to build onto existing schools and onto existing land, but it was the State Department of Education that turned them down.
In fact, they had a lot of choices. You won’t believe what we’ve found.
Currently, the Cape Henlopen School District owns 357 acres of property. A quick look at some of the aerial shots of these properties shows that they are grossly under-utilized.
We assembled a few examples with a simple challenge question to the State:
“Can you fit a school here?”
These are just a few examples, but the State Department of Education decided to turn down the options of renovation and using existing property.
Instead, they gave the school district an ultimatum:
Take on the added expense of an additional property and build new —
— or receive NO HELP from the general fund of your own tax dollars.
And what property did the State Department of Education finally give their blessing to?
Of all the places in the world, none other than directly on Route 24 across from Beacon Middle School.
Obviously, the State Department of Educrats doesn’t drive much in Sussex County.
Get to the polls tomorrow and VOTE NO. We need a decisive victory to strike these crazy ideas off the table and get to a solution that is good for the taxpayers.
We also do not need any more obstacles on Route 24.
Get to the polls on Wednesday between 10:00 AM and 8:00 PM and VOTE NO.
